Hello everyone
Its been a while since I blogged as I have been away traveling the world and little internet access.
On my return I recently had the opportunity to see and photograph the Flying scotsman steam train when it came to visit the Keighley Worth Valley Railway.
And what a treat it was, I’m glad I had there privalige to photograph this epic steam train. Here’s a little about the history of the Flying Scotsman steam train. It was built in Doncaster In 1923 and designed specifically for long distance travel.
- Engineer:- Nigel Gresley
- Type:- Class A1 Pacific
- Cost:- £7.944
The history of the the Flying Scotsman
It was the third locomotive of its type and it got its name for being the first non stop service to Edinburgh from London’s Kingscross and did it in the record time of 8hrs and 3 mins. Forty years later it beat its own record and did it in 7hrs 36min.
Another record it holds is that it was the 1st ever steam train to reach a top speed of 100 mph.
It retired in 1963 having covered some 2,076,000 miles up and down the U.K.
Since then it has traveled the world, doing tours in America and Australia appearing in films such as ‘ Agatha Unfazed staring Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave. It has been bought, sold and bought again.
Fully restored in 1999 it made a journey to York from Kings Cross to the thrill of enthusiasts young and old and to this day it is still thrilling folk from every walk of life.
So being brought up not far from Haworth and the Keighley Worth Valley Railway, I had an affection for steam trains and I personally think that the
Worth valley railway is one of the best persevered Railways in England. You can really get up close to the trains and feel the atmosphere of steam trains.
So I grabbed my camera and walking boots and followed the train up and down the line getting photos from tops of tunnels and along side bankings and
managed to get some good shots all of which are available to purchase. I think these will look good as large prints or canvases.
To order you can go online or give me a call to discuss your requirements.
Many thanks

Bradford West Yorkshire, Haworth Steampunk Festival.
Photographed Some great outfits / characters up and down the main street, and down at Haworth train
station on Sunday
Having spoken to a few of the Characters, I Have discovered what Steampunk is all about.
It seems to be about the Industrial revolution and the steam era.
A mixture of influences seem to be attributed to steampunk.
One being Punk and Heavy metal musical influences along with Victorian Science.
Gothic period stile clothing, such as Top hats and brass rimmed goggles.
Mechanical devices, such as clocks, victorian / Edwardian Jet packs.
Watches showing the inner workings of cogs and mechanical components.
All in all a fascinating fashion trend, and well worth photographing all the
various Characters involved in this Fashion/culture.
